Until something happens that you weren’t expecting. A feeling or sensation that catches you off guard. Your mind is now full of angst as you wonder why your body is vibrating. Could it be your baby? Is he/she trying to explain something is wrong? What causes the vibrating feeling in uterus during pregnancy?
What Causes Vibrations in The Uterus?
Before you become a prisoner to your own thoughts, know that the pulses or vibrations you are experiencing are totally normal.
The vibrating is mostly caused by your little bean becoming busy. They are making small and frequent movements that can make your uterus feel as if it’s vibrating. Whilst your baby is small you may also feel the whoosh of the amniotic fluid as your baby moves.
- As the baby grows, it can cause the uterus to expand and contract. This can lead to a sensation of vibrations.
- Changes in your hormones can also cause a vibrating sensation in the uterus. As pregnancy progresses, our body goes through many changes. These changes can cause the muscles in the uterus to contract and relax. This can lead to a sensation of vibrations.
- Your movements can also cause a vibrating sensation in the uterus. As we move, the baby can move around in the uterus. This can lead to a sensation of vibrations.
What Can Your Baby’s Movements Tell You About Their Health?
Your baby’s movements are prominent signals to tell you all is going great on the inside. You are likely to experience the vibrating feeling in your uterus in early pregnancy. But to clarify what to expect and when we have singled out the three phases of pregnancy.
First Trimester
This part of pregnancy is a time of awe, wonder, and sickness. Yep, your hormones are bursting at the beginning meaning that you could be unlucky with your symptoms but note that as your body settles into the new radiating hormone funfair your symptoms will ease eventually.
It’s unlikely that any vibrating feeling at this point is going to be your baby per se. But with the pregnancy cogs turning hard at work, other systems in your body can be on the go slow.
Taking your digestive system into consideration, your gut and bowel are now responding to those perfect and prompt hormones that send your regular toileting habits out the window.
Constipation and gas buildup are a nightmare during pregnancy so if you are feeling a vibrating in your tummy and it’s too early to be bub just yet blame it on the gas. Bubbles of trapped wind can cause pain and bloating which when shifting could be mistaken as a vibration from the uterus. Don’t worry though, it’s still perfectly okay to blame the baby for those unexpected bottom bursts.
Second Trimester
Rolling into the second trimester is where the excitement begins. Expectant moms can begin to feel flutters and vibrations from anywhere between sixteen to twenty weeks.
The vibrations may still be mistaken for gas of course but if you’re around this gestation you could well be feeling your cherub’s movements. This is the perfect opportunity to begin the bond with your now small and developing bump.
If you cannot determine whether your baby is moving by twenty-four weeks ensure you mention to your doctor where they can examine you for placental placement and monitor your baby. Those moms who experience an anterior placenta tend to feel fewer movements but it doesn’t usually make a difference to your baby’s health, it’s just an extra pillow between your belly and the baby.
Vibrations felt early in this trimester are considered normal and a healthy sign of pregnancy. As your baby grows so will their movements meaning from around twenty-four weeks your partner can get in on the movement action.
Third Trimester
The final hurdle in pregnancy can sometimes be the hardest. Your shape has expanded as well as your poor ankles and feet. You may now be experiencing the return of pregnancy symptoms as your hormones are set back on to their final hike before delivery.
Movements at this point are defined. Is that a foot sticking out or a hand? Your baby is growing at a rapid rate and space in your uterus is becoming rather enclosed. Your baby will now have a pattern of movement and you will notice when he/she is sleeping.
My babies both came alive at night meaning that my resting period was usually spent with a little one performing gymnastics from inside.
Noticing a vibrating feeling in uterus while pregnant at this time can signal muscle spasms whether it’s the ultimate stretch of your own muscles or from your baby trying to create more room. These jerking movements are normal within the third trimester.
Is It Normal To Feel Vibrations In Your Uterus?
The vibrating feeling in the uterus during pregnancy is a completely normal and expected sensation.
Whether it’s gas, a baby stretch, or a muscle spasm, you can eradicate any negative concerns that the vibrations mean your baby is anything other than healthy.
It’s important to understand that if you experience a change in movements be it less or more frequent you will need immediate attention. The doctor can then pop the monitor on to check your baby’s heartbeat and welfare.
Your baby can communicate with you through their movement pattern so don’t hesitate to get anything checked out if you’re unsure. You know your baby best so trust your instincts.
Should You Worry About the Vibration?
If you notice any of the following-
- Pain
- Bleeding
- Cramping
Then you might wanna see your doctor for an examination.
In most cases, a vibrating sensation in the uterus is nothing to be concerned about. It’s often simply a sign that your baby is moving around. However, if you’re concerned about the sensation, or if it’s accompanied by other symptoms, be sure to contact your doctor. They can help you determine whether or not there’s cause for concern.
Understand Your Uterus Anatomy!
The uterus is truly a remarkable and intricate organ. It serves as a nurturing home for a developing baby and plays a vital role in generating many of a woman’s hormones. Let’s delve deeper into the structure of the uterus and the transformations it undergoes during pregnancy.
This pear-shaped organ, nestled in your pelvis, consists of several layers of tissue, such as the endometrium, myometrium, and perimetrium. The endometrium, being the innermost layer, is where a fertilized egg finds its place and begins to grow.
The myometrium, which forms the middle layer of the uterus, is composed of smooth muscle tissue. This layer plays a crucial role in contracting your uterus during the delivery of your baby. The perimetrium, as the outermost layer, safeguards the organ.
As your pregnancy progresses, the uterus enlarges to make room for your growing little one. The endometrium becomes thicker, creating a nurturing environment for the developing embryo. Simultaneously, the myometrium grows and thickens in preparation for labor. Astonishingly, by the end of your pregnancy, your uterus may have expanded up to 20 times its original size!
Isn’t the anatomy of the uterus an amazing example of how the human body is able to adapt to change?
Other Pregnancy Sensations That Are Common
During my pregnancies, I went through a variety of unusual sensations, including a vibrating feeling in my uterus. From the experience, these are the common sensation you may experience during your journey:
1. Heartburn: This burning sensation is caused by your baby’s head pressing on the stomach. Heartburn is more common in the later stages of pregnancy.
2. Braxton Hicks contractions: These are practice contractions that can occur throughout pregnancy. They are usually painless and do not indicate that labor is imminent.
3. Pelvic pressure: Caused by the baby’s head pressing down on the pelvis. Pelvic pressure is more common in the later stages of pregnancy.
4. Round ligament pain: This sharp, shooting pain is caused by the baby’s weight pulling on the ligaments that support the uterus. Round ligament pain is more common in the second trimester.
5. Stretch marks: These markings occur when the skin stretches beyond its normal capacity. Stretch marks are common during pregnancy, especially in the later stages of your pregnancy.
Wrapping Up
For many, this feeling of the uterus vibrating during pregnancy can be quite exciting. It’s caused by contractions or by your baby’s growth. The vibrations tell you that the angel is growing there. If your dynamic duo moves around a lot, then your uterus will vibrate to accommodate them.
And even if you don’t feel these movements, it is important to note that your baby’s movements are normal and a healthy sign of their development!
