We all have habits we depend on and energy drinks can be one! But over time they have obtained a bad reputation because of their high sugar and caffeine content. But what’s safer than an energy drink brought to you by leading scientists? We trust pharmaceutical companies to supply our medications but can you drink Bank while pregnant?
So Can You Drink Bang While Pregnant?
Bang Energy Drink is recommended to avoid during pregnancy.
Bang energy drinks have taken the supplement market by storm. They are classed as healthier than their alternative competitors but there is still a concern if you were to drink Bang energy drink during pregnancy. Caffeine during pregnancy should be limited and with one can offering 300mgs it would put you at a higher rate for miscarriage and your baby from developmental complications.
Pregnancy Woes
Pregnancy is exhausting, even when resting, your body is working harder than ever to keep your baby developing and growing. The one thing you used to use as a pick me up is now deemed off limits. Energy drinks are renowned for their performance enhancing effects but even healthier alternatives are not recommended during pregnancy. Read on to find out if Bang energy drink is safe for pregnancy?
History Behind Bang Energy
Bang Energy is a reputable company backed by leading scientists and medical professionals. The CEO Jack Owok had one goal and that was to create a high performance enhancing fuel that people could consume without the added sugars and additives that seem to be packed into other branded products.
The research that Owok and his team have put into creating the formula has been extensive and backed by a team of scientists to ensure that their product is of the very best quality.
Bang Energy drink is one of the most known names in the industry with its promise to help enhance your performance. Some may think that the odd can or two whilst pregnant couldn’t harm. This is totally wrong!
With the website stating “We’re here to empower all walks of life with innovations that fuel the mind, body, and spirit” It’s important to highlight that the journey you are on whilst being pregnant shouldn’t include this product. They even state it on their packaging so credit is due to them for highlighting this!
Health Risks
When pregnant your body creates another organ known as the placenta. This is the lifeline link between you and your baby, nutrients in the foods you eat and beverages you drink will cross over and deliver them to your baby. With that in mind it makes you second guess everything you put into your body.
Energy drinks are known for their high sugar and caffeine content so if you think feeding a newborn a can of Bang is unimaginable why would you fuel your body with it whilst pregnant?
Don’t get me wrong Bang Energy is a great company with a big reputation. But bang energy and pregnancy do not go hand in hand.Their research into what works has been undeniable but even the company promotes that their product isn’t suitable for pregnant and nursing moms so whilst they are achieving what they do best let’s unpick why these products should be avoided until after delivery.
Stress levels
A study found that after giving pregnant mice a small amount of energy drink they were subjected to oxidative stress. You’re already doing so much physically you really do not need more stress in your life. A calm mom is a calm baby.
Caffeine
We all know that caffeine needs to be limited during pregnancy. A rough guideline is for you to consume no more than 200 mg per day whilst pregnant. This equates to 2 small cups of coffee.
A typical can of energy drink can contain anything from 80 mg to 300 mg. Bang products contain 300 mg so definitely on the higher end of the caffeine levels there!
Caffeine is dangerous in pregnancy; it stays in the body for longer meaning it can cross the placenta and into your baby’s bloodstream not to mention the other active ingredients that could pose potential harm. Consuming too much caffeine puts yourself and your baby at significant risk, miscarriage being one.
Heart rate and Blood Pressure
Being pregnant your blood volume has increased meaning your heart works harder and faster. Drinking energy drinks have been found to have negative effects on cardiovascular responses. This can make your blood pressure increase and your heart to race which is not recommended considering your body is already working hard.
On the contrary, the above publication was not conducted on pregnant moms but on healthy young adults and teens but it found more than 50% reported negative cardiovascular responses.
Is Bang a Sports Drink?
To answer this question without bias we need to dig into the differences between energy drinks and sports drinks alike.
Energy Drinks | Sports Drinks |
High caffeine content Increase energy Stimulate mental alertness. Can cause dehydration | No caffeine Balances electrolytes Good for hydration |
As you can see, comparing a sports drink to an energy drink is totally black and white and I think you will agree with me Bang isn’t classed as a sports drink.
When I was near delivery on my first pregnancy I was shocked to be given the advice to bring an isotonic sports drink with me. My doctor actually recommended one of the things I avoided for my whole 40 weeks. Fast forward to delivery and I can totally understand the benefits that a sports drink can have especially when you are probably doing the hardest workout of all. Birthing a baby is no easy task.
Wrapping Up
To conclude, I think it’s fair to say that Bang energy is a great product in its own right and when used appropriately.
Regarding can you drink bang while pregnant? It’s a firm no go.
Not only will its ingredients transfer to your baby but you may be subjected to higher blood pressure, and a faster heart rate, and in the worst case, the caffeine content can create developmental challenges for your baby.
Look for ways to relax rather than products to help your performance find your inner balance and only then will you feel one with your new journey.
