An increased level sex drive before BFP is a common matter, and doesn’t certainly mean you are pregnant. There could be many other reasons behind this as well, such as hormonal changes in a woman, and if you are expecting, it is advised that you look for other signs, too.

Increased Sex Drive Before BFP – Is It Real?

If you have noticed that you could jump your partner’s bones more often, then this could be a signal of early pregnancy. Many women report noticing a higher sex drive before getting their bfp. Alternatively, there can be other reasons you are willing to with your hormones continuously shifting it is never a solid way to indicate you’re expecting.

Is the need for jumping into bed more often making you suspect you’re pregnant? Your partner could be counting his lucky stars that you seem to always be in the mood. If you feel like your body is telling you something then listening to your intuition may not be so bad. Stick with us as we uncover if your sex drive can actually get higher when pregnant.

Is Your Sex Drive Higher When Pregnant?

study found that 18.2% of women have a higher sex drive whilst pregnant. However, it was noted that the latter had a decreased sex drive. This leads us to believe that overall your libido can go through many changes whilst you are expecting.

It is no secret that due to hormones fluctuating and increased blood flow you could find the desire to jump into bed more often during pregnancy.

Let’s note how your Libido could change over the three trimesters.

  • First Trimester

Your body is thrown into hyperdrive in your first trimester. The new hormones work overtime to ensure a successful fetus develops which is why you may feel your desire for intercourse increases.

On the other hand, of course, early pregnancy can come with morning sickness, tender breasts, headaches, and fatigue which is why many women couldn’t think of anything worse than having some extra loving time.

  • Second Trimester

During the second trimester, you may feel the pregnancy glow arise. Personally, I kept waiting for that “glow” for a long time indeed! But needless to say, from around 13 weeks is when you may feel the nausea and fatigue lift which is when your sex drive may become heightened!

  • Third Trimester

Sex in your third trimester may be the least desired activity. Your bump which is slowly resembling a watermelon is pressurizing all your joints and giving you the beached whale feeling. It is totally safe to have sex in the final stages of pregnancy and providing you and your partner are comfortable doing so then nothing should stop you.

Early Pregnancy Signs and Symptoms

BFP pregnancy test

To play it fair noticing you have an increased sex drive before a bfp is not the most reliable way of recognizing your pregnancy. If an increased libido is present with other early symptoms then you could well be correct in thinking you are expecting. Look out for the following:

  • Tender breasts
  • Nausea and or vomiting
  • Fatigue
  • Going off foods or smells
  • Using the bathroom often
  • Mood swings
  • Heartburn

Obviously, the biggest sign that you could be expecting would be a missed period so if you feel like you could be pregnant, holding off until your missed period will help you clearly indicate your big fat positive result!

Looking at your Libido

As we look specifically at the rise in your libido during early pregnancy we also should pay attention to why your sex drive may rise and fall when being pregnant is not the outcome.

  • Your menstrual cycle can increase and decrease Libido with hormone influx.
  • Medication
  • Hormonal phases in life – menopause.
  • Birth control
  • Antidepressant meds
  • Quality of sleep

Best Time to Test

The signs and symptoms of regency differ from female to female. Both my pregnancies were extremely different. I had next to no sickness on my first and found a new desire for sweeter foods, my libido only raised very briefly when I was in the midst of my second trimester. My second pregnancy on the other hand, saw me vomiting up to my third trimester so it is safe to say sex was definitely off the cards!

Needless to say the telltale signs of a pregnancy would be getting the BFP on an at home kit. If done correctly and providing the test is in date the best time to test would be after that missed visit from aunt Flo.

Testing with your first morning wee is usually the best time as the levels of the pregnancy hormone hCG is at their highest concentration.

There are some tests that can detect hormone changes up to 7 days prior to your missed period but it would depend on the levels of hCG in your system.

  • You and Your Cycle

There are times in your cycle when your sex drive will increase naturally when you aren’t pregnant.

Research suggests that you could find the urge more likely just before ovulation. It is found to link closely with the Luteinizing hormone that surges during your fertile window. This could be a great guide for those women who are trying to conceive. As you reach the peak of the Luteinizing spike you may notice a drop in libido.
